about
Sunset Doula was founded by Lisa. She strives to help new parents find confidence and grace as they get to know their new baby.
Her mission is to make the transition to parenthood as smooth as possible by supporting preparations prior to the baby’s arrival, helping to establish rhythms that promote the health & well-being of the new mother and whole family, and facilitating community connections.
Change can be hard and, albeit exciting, transition may feel overwhelming one moment, and amazing the next moment. With a background in child development and psychology and nearly two decades of work with families in the Bay Area, Lisa rides that rollercoaster right alongside you.
Lisa is no stranger to babies, new mamas and the incredible network of professionals in the birth and new parent community. She recognizes the deep impact a nurturing circle of support can have on a new parent. And she is thrilled to work with families in this capacity.
Background. Throughout her career, she has been drawn to brain research and evidence based practices, which guided her from work in language learning, to learning disabilities to the impact of play on a child’s development. The American Association of Pediatrics report on Play was a game changer for her and sparked an interest in designing a community-centric space for families with young children. This space, Recess, opened in 2008 and became a pillar of the Potrero Hill community and then moved to The Outer Sunset in 2018.
Lisa carries the belief that no one organization/ expert/ parent /caregiver has everything we need to support & raise young children. It truly takes a village, and when we work together as such, we are able to more effectively and joyfully support one another as we move through this journey.
In her postpartum doula work, Lisa brings her extensive network of experts along with her. She is tapped in to the local resources available to support you as you look for referrals to pediatricians, pediatric dentists, craniosacral workers, lactation consultants and sleep experts.
Lisa was born and raised in the Bay Area, studied at University of California at Davis and Oxford University, and now lives in the Outer Sunset with her husband, two young children and their dog. She loves adventures through Golden Gate Park, playing on the beach, and, when the stars align, travelling.
She looks forward to meeting you and supporting your journey into parenthood.
Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had…and fears you didn’t know existed.
Let’s Connect
A quick introductory call is a great way to share the basics (EDD, location, your family’s needs) and the way I work so we can decide if we’re a match. Rest assured, if we’re not a fit, I am happy to share referrals to others in the community.
